NEW East Bay Referee Association and Lead Assignor Steve Larsen!

March 6, 2021 Press Release

Subject: Exciting Announcement: NEW East Bay Referee Association and Lead Assignor Steve Larsen!

Dear Colleagues and Referee Community Members,

We are extremely excited to announce a massive step forward for referees in the Tri-Valley area, with the formation of the East Bay Referee Association (EBRA).  EBRA is a collaboration between four Tri-Valley clubs (Ballistic United, Livermore Fusion, Pleasanton RAGE, and San Ramon FC) which will serve the referee needs for each member club.  The new organization is a CA not-for-profit and will be governed both by its member clubs and by its referee members.  The goal of the organization is to not just coordinate and deliver referees to each member club, but to fundamentally change the way clubs think about and interact with our match officials! Through this collaboration, we look forward to better serving our region through the recruitment, education, mentorship, and calculated assigning of referees.  We are committed to referee growth and development while simultaneously improving the experience for member clubs.

Each of these clubs has spent considerable time and resources to better understand the referee ecosystem, and we have brought in some of the top referee minds in Northern California to assist us in the formation of this organization.  While we will have more announcements in the coming weeks and months regarding staffing and structure, we are very excited to announce today that Steve Larsen will be part of the founding of EBRA as our Lead Assignor this spring.  Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and is currently the State Youth Referee Administrator.  While there will be others who will join the EBRA leadership team soon, we are thrilled that Steve is assisting us with the launch and establishment of our infrastructure.  If you have questions for Steve, he can be reached at: stevelarsen@eastbayrefs.org

As we have been given the green light to restart competition, it is vital that we start to prepare our officials to return to the field as well.  While we don’t know exactly when we will return to league games that will require officials, we anticipate that we will start scheduling referees sometime between mid-March and April.  We will be in touch about registering with EBRA, but in the meantime, it is extremely important that each referee register for the current season with US Soccer.  We strongly encourage every official to get started on this ASAP as the process is different than in years past and can take up to two weeks.  Please review the directions on how to do so below.

If you have not already registered for the 2021 season, please do so ASAP!  Visit https://learning.ussoccer.com/referee or www.cnra.net for more details on how to complete the new registration process!

Additionally, there will be a Webinar reviewing the 2021 changes to the Laws of the Game on Thursday, March 11th at 7pm.  We strongly encourage you to attend this as well.  Please register at the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_m3fHf6SrQrC8KzLm1I7a6Q

We are very excited about the opportunity in front of the East Bay Referee Association and can’t wait to get back on the field soon!

We will be sending out more information soon to let you know how to sign up for our new venture!

Yours in Soccer,  East Bay Referee Association
